Following UNAMA’s fourth annual anti-corruption report ‘Afghanistan’s Fight against Corruption: Crucial for Peace and Prosperity’ on 18th June 2020, we want to look at the anti-corruption efforts and integrity reforms in Afghanistan, especially given the country’s pressing challenges and opportunities around peace and development.
CFA held in-depth conversation on the report's findings, as well as crucial factors and recommendations for anti-corruption reforms in Afghanistan. Panellists will focus on how a lack of transparency and accountability remains one of the most significant obstacles to Afghanistan's long-term peace and prosperity, why anti-corruption reforms have slowed down in the country (particularly as COVID-19 has brought to light the level of corruption that still exists with services and supplies not reaching Afghans) and what factors are contributing to the high-level of corruption in the country i.e. whether the institutional and governmental structures currently in place are to blame.
