During the first six months of 2020, 1.282 Afghan civilians have been killed and 2.176 have been injured, leaving a total of 3.458 civilian casualties, according to a report released by the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
This appalling figure, as stated in the report, is the result mainly of violence between Afghan government forces and the Taliban; specifically, 23% of the casualties is attributed to the former and 43% to the later.
Even though in the report it is also mentioned a reduction of 13% on the civilian casualties compared to the same period last year, this is believed to be driven by a drop in international operations as well as fewer attacks by Islamic State militants.
Unfortunately, despite the pact between the US and the Taliban signed in Doha, violence keeps growing and Afghanistan continues to be one of the deadliest conflicts in the world for civilian population.
